Safety Relay
Specialized device for monitoring safety circuits and generating safety-related output signals in machinery and equipment control systems.
A safety relay is intended to process signals from safety devices and control the associated safety-related output circuits.
Emergency-stop devices, guard doors, light curtains, safety sensors, and other compatible devices may be connected to its inputs.
The device may monitor one or more input channels and detect selected wiring faults, including cross-circuits and short circuits. Test pulses and dedicated test outputs may be used for diagnostic monitoring of input circuits.
External Device Monitoring allows the state of downstream contactors, relays, valves, or other final switching elements to be monitored. For multichannel inputs, the discrepancy time between related channels may be monitored.
Safety outputs may be electromechanical or semiconductor, normally open, normally closed, or may provide an adjustable delay. Separate conventional signalling and diagnostic outputs that are not safety outputs may also be present.
The relay may support manual, automatic, or monitored start, startup testing, and additional expansion modules.
Functional-safety assessment may include declared PL, SIL, SILCL, PFHd, architectural category, and the mission time used by the manufacturer for the relevant calculations.
Selection criteria include the required safety function, input and output architecture, response time, reset arrangement, diagnostics, external switching devices, and declared compliance with applicable standards.
This subcategory includes safety relays for emergency stop, guard doors, light curtains, safety sensors, and other functional-safety functions.
