Programmable Relay
Compact programmable control device with digital and analogue inputs and outputs, together with logic, timing, and computational functions.
A programmable relay is intended to implement small and medium automatic-control algorithms without using a full modular PLC system.
The device contains integrated inputs and outputs, user-program memory, and computational functions.
Depending on the version, digital and analogue signals, high-speed inputs and counters, pulse outputs, and expansion modules may be supported. For the expansion system, the maximum number of modules and the maximum total number of digital and analogue inputs and outputs are specified.
Programming may be performed directly from the local panel, from a PC, or through a supported remote connection. Manufacturer software and one or more supported programming languages or programming methods are used for application development.
A dedicated programming cable or removable memory card may be required.
Important characteristics include program-memory capacity, maximum number of function blocks or program steps, program cycle time, and retentive-memory capacity.
Nonvolatile memory retains the user program without continuous supply power, while retentive memory can preserve selected variables, timers, or counters.
The device may include local keys, RS-485, USB, and other communication ports.
Additional functions may include PID control, arithmetic operations, PWM, software timers and counters, and calendar- or weekly-time-switch functions.
Selection criteria include the number and types of I/O, expansion capability, memory capacity, execution speed, communication interfaces, programming methods, and required software functions.
This subcategory includes programmable relays and compact logic controllers with integrated I/O, user-program memory, and automation functions.
