Voltage Transformer
Instrument transformer for proportional conversion of primary voltage into a standardized secondary voltage.
A voltage transformer converts electrical-system voltage into a proportional secondary value suitable for meters, energy meters, protection devices, and automation systems.
Principal parameters include rated primary and secondary voltage, transformation ratio, rated burden, accuracy class, and instrument-transformer function.
Depending on the construction, inductive and other voltage-transformer designs may be used. Multiple cores or secondary windings can provide separate measuring and protection circuits.
Voltage factor and its permissible duration characterize the ability of the device to operate at increased primary voltage under specified conditions.
Selection criteria include rated voltages, transformation ratio, accuracy, burden, number of secondary circuits, construction, and compliance with the relevant parts of IEC 61869.
Instrument voltage transformers, inductive transformers for measurement and protection, and models with one or multiple secondary windings.
