RS-485 Interface
Industrial interface module or device for connecting equipment to a differential RS-485 serial communication line.
An RS-485 interface provides physical data transmission over a balanced two-wire or four-wire serial line. It may be integrated into a controller or implemented as a standalone interface module.
Important characteristics include port count, 2-wire/4-wire mode, maximum data rate, permissible line length, galvanic isolation, isolation voltage, termination, and bus biasing. Supported node count, ESD/surge protection, and connector type are also relevant.
The interface may carry Modbus RTU/ASCII, manufacturer-specific protocols, and other serial protocols. Selection should treat the physical layer independently from the particular application protocol.
This subcategory includes RS-485 modules and devices for controllers, meters, drives, sensors, and other industrial equipment.
