Device description

Handwheel Interface Module

Interface module for connecting electronic CNC handwheels and transferring pulse commands for manual axis movement.

A handwheel interface module receives pulses from an MPG and makes them available to a CNC or motion controller as manual-motion commands. It may also read an axis-selector switch, step multiplier, enable button, and other controls of a handheld operator unit.

Principal characteristics include number of MPG inputs, signal type, maximum pulse frequency, supported electrical levels, and number of switch inputs. Depending on the system, filtering, hardware counting, diagnostics, and isolation may be available.

Selection criteria include compatibility with the particular handwheel/MPG, supply voltage, pulse interface, pinout, connector type, latency, and integration with CNC manual-jog functions.
