Bidirectional EV Charger
Charging station for controlled bidirectional energy exchange between an electric vehicle and the grid, home, or building.
A bidirectional EV charger supports both charging of the vehicle battery and reverse energy transfer from the vehicle.
Depending on the system, V2G, V2H, and V2B modes may be available.
The power stage must provide bidirectional energy conversion, the required vehicle DC currents, and controlled power export to the grid or backup load.
For backup supply, the rated parameters of the backup output and the power-flow direction change time are important.
Control may integrate with EMS, grid operators, and CSMS using ISO 15118 and OCPP functions for bidirectional charging and DER control.
Selection criteria include vehicle compatibility, charging interface type, maximum bidirectional power, grid-code requirements, backup mode, and supported communication standards.
