Ethernet Cable
Balanced twisted-pair cable for Ethernet and structured cabling with defined category, screening, and high-frequency transmission characteristics.
Ethernet cable carries data over one or more twisted pairs and is used in conventional LANs as well as industrial and machine networks.
The construction may be unscreened or screened at overall-cable and/or individual-pair level. Screening arrangements are identified by designations such as U/UTP, F/UTP, U/FTP, S/FTP, and related variants.
Compliance with a given category requires control of crosstalk and balance parameters including NEXT, Power-Sum NEXT, ACR-N, ACR-F, TCL, and ELTCTL. Propagation delay and pair-to-pair delay skew are also important.
Additional data may include supported Ethernet applications, a ripcord for easier sheath removal, and MICE environmental classification used in industrial installations.
Selection criteria include required Ethernet data rate and bandwidth, channel length, screening arrangement, Power over Ethernet conditions, MICE environment, and compliance with ISO/IEC 11801-1, EN 50173-1, and ANSI/TIA-568.2-E.
