Bus Cable
Specialized balanced cable for industrial fieldbus and other serial communication systems.
A bus cable is intended to implement the physical layer of industrial communication and fieldbus networks. Its parameters must match the requirements of the specific protocol and network topology.
It commonly uses one or more twisted pairs with controlled resistance, capacitance, inductance, and characteristic impedance. Stability of these characteristics is important to segment length and communication quality.
Relevant transmission parameters include loop resistance, resistance unbalance, propagation delay, velocity of propagation, and characteristic-impedance tolerance.
Screening reduces electromagnetic interference, while MICE classification may be used to assess suitability for a particular industrial environment.
Selection requires matching the cable to the specific bus, required segment length and data rate, and IEC 61158-2 where that standard is applicable.
