Coaxial Cable
High-frequency cable with concentric inner and outer conductors for RF, TV, SAT, CATV, CCTV, and measurement signals.
A coaxial cable consists of a centre conductor, surrounding dielectric, and outer conductor serving as both the return path and electromagnetic screen.
This geometry maintains a defined characteristic impedance and reduces both signal radiation and susceptibility to external interference. The outer conductor may use a single or multilayer construction.
Principal parameters include dielectric type and diameter, outer-conductor construction and screen-layer count, capacitance per unit length, inner and outer conductor resistance, and frequency-dependent attenuation.
Screening class characterizes the ability of the cable to limit emissions and external electromagnetic interference. Cable type designation, such as an RG family designation, and intended applications are also relevant.
Selection criteria include characteristic impedance, operating frequency range, attenuation, screening class, and compliance with EN 50117 or IEC 61196 where applicable.
