Earthing Conductor
Conductor intended to connect exposed conductive parts, protective busbars, and the earthing system in a protective-earthing arrangement.
An earthing or protective conductor provides an electrical connection between parts of an installation and the PE busbar or earthing arrangement. It forms part of the protection-against-electric-shock system.
Under fault conditions it provides the intended path for fault or short-circuit current, supporting operation of protective measures and limiting hazardous touch voltage.
Depending on its function, it may serve as a PE conductor, earthing conductor, or another protective conductor within the installation.
Selection criteria include material, cross-section, length, permissible short-circuit current, routing method, required mechanical protection, and connection conditions.
The final conductor size and installation method must comply with the requirements of the specific installation and the applicable electrical-installation rules and standards.
