Motor / Drive Cable
Power cable intended to connect an electric motor to a VFD, servo drive, spindle drive, or other electronic drive system.
A motor/drive cable carries power from the output of a VFD, servo drive, or other electronic converter to the motor. Unlike conventional mains supply, it commonly operates with PWM waveforms having very steep voltage edges.
The insulation must therefore withstand repetitive impulse stress, and the construction must address EMC effects associated with drive switching. The cable should retain suitable performance at the voltage and switching conditions of the drive.
Low and suitably balanced resistance of the motor conductors and effective screening are also important. The screen supports reduction of emissions generated by the inverter or servo drive.
The same sheath may contain additional conductors for a motor holding brake and other auxiliary circuits.
Selection criteria include rated voltage, motor current, power-core cross-section, screening, number of brake conductors, flexibility, and installation method. For moving applications, dynamic bend radius and repetitive-flex life are additional key characteristics.
