Instrumentation Cable
Specialized cable for accurate transmission of analogue, pulse, and measurement signals in instrumentation and control systems.
Instrumentation cable is used in instrumentation and control systems to carry low-level signals from sensors, transmitters, and measuring equipment. The construction should reduce both external interference and coupling between adjacent channels.
Transmission elements may be arranged as twisted pairs, triads, or quads. Depending on the requirements, individual pairs or groups may have separate screens, while the complete cable may also have an overall screen.
Accurate transmission depends on low and balanced capacitance, limited resistance unbalance, and a controlled inductance-to-resistance relationship. These parameters are especially important in long measurement circuits.
Individual screens reduce inter-channel crosstalk, while the overall screen limits external electromagnetic influence. Screen grounding should correspond to the measurement-system design.
Selection criteria include number of pairs, triads, or quads, screening type, line electrical characteristics, installation conditions, and compliance with EN 50288-1/-7 where applicable.
