Device description

Insulation Displacement Connector

Insulation-displacement connector that establishes electrical contact by cutting or displacing conductor insulation without fully stripping it first.

An IDC uses a specially shaped contact which cuts through or displaces insulation during assembly and presses directly against the conductor.

The technology reduces conductor-preparation steps and provides repeatable contact geometry, provided the conductor diameter and insulated overall diameter remain within the specified ranges.

Correct matching to conductor material, diameter and insulation type is critical. An undersized or oversized conductor may not provide the required contact pressure or may be damaged.

Selection should consider bare and insulated conductor diameter ranges, conductor material, insulation type, number of contacts, reusability and applicable IDC connection requirements.
