Insulation Piercing Connector
Insulation-piercing connector used to create a branch connection through the insulation of the main and/or tap conductor.
An IPC establishes electrical contact by controlled penetration of the conductor insulation without fully stripping the conductor.
For branch designs, the supported cross-section and material ranges of the main conductor and tap conductor are specified separately. Clamping may be generated by one or more bolts, including torque-controlled shear-head bolts.
The connection may also contain a sealing compound that protects the contact area against moisture and contamination. In Al/Cu applications, material compatibility and oxidation protection are particularly important.
Selection should consider conductor ranges, bolt count and type, tightening torque, sealing compound, environmental conditions and declared compliance with IEC 60998-2-3 or other applicable requirements.
