Electrical Interlock
System of auxiliary contacts and control circuits that electrically prevents simultaneous closing of incompatible devices.
An electrical interlock implements logical mutual inhibition of closing commands for two or more devices.
It may use auxiliary contacts, signal contacts, relays, PLC logic or dedicated interlock modules.
Unlike a mechanical interlock, it acts through control circuits, so the design must consider the required fail-safe behaviour and response to control-circuit faults.
Selection criteria include the number of interlocked devices, available contact circuits, control voltage, compatibility and accessory mounting position.
Electrical interlocks for switching devices, contactors and automatic transfer systems.
