Harmonic Filter
Passive or active filter intended to reduce harmonic currents generated by nonlinear loads.
A harmonic filter reduces higher-order harmonic current components generated by converters, drives, and other nonlinear electrical loads.
Passive filters use tuned LC circuits, while active filters generate compensating current electronically.
For passive systems, tuning frequency is a key parameter; for all filter types, the declared harmonic-current reduction under specified operating conditions is important.
Additional selection parameters include inductance, percentage impedance, voltage drop, power losses, rated current, and compatibility with the supply network.
Selection should consider the actual harmonic spectrum, network short-circuit power, possible resonance conditions, and expected load operating states.
Harmonic filters for VFDs, rectifiers, UPS systems, and industrial nonlinear loads.
