Miniature Circuit Breaker
Compact circuit breaker intended to protect electrical circuits against overcurrents by automatically opening the circuit when specified fault conditions occur.
A miniature circuit breaker is intended to provide automatic protection of an electrical circuit against overcurrents caused by overload or short circuit. After the cause of tripping has been removed, the device can normally be reclosed without replacing a protective element.
Miniature circuit breakers are widely used in distribution boards in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations. Their construction is typically compact and modular, with mounting on a standard DIN rail.
Key characteristics include rated current, rated voltage, number of poles, number of protected poles, tripping characteristic, and rated short-circuit capacity. For certain versions, Icu, Ics, the Ics-to-Icu ratio, energy limiting class, and other short-circuit performance parameters may also be specified.
The circuit breaker may use a thermal, electromagnetic, electronic, or combined trip mechanism. A trip-free mechanism ensures protective tripping independently of the operating element being held in the ON position.
For devices intended for DC circuits, the permitted supply direction and sensitivity to polarity must also be considered. Reverse-feed capability must be determined directly from the manufacturer's data.
Selection criteria include rated electrical characteristics, tripping characteristic, breaking capacity, number of poles, supported protection functions, connection method, permitted supply direction, operating conditions, and declared compliance with applicable standards.
This subcategory includes miniature circuit breakers (MCB) with different rated currents, tripping characteristics, pole configurations, and breaking capacities, including versions intended for AC, DC, and combined applications.
