Busbar
Rigid, flexible, or multilayer conductive element intended to carry and distribute electrical current between devices, circuits, or connection points.
A busbar is an electrical conductor of defined shape intended to carry or distribute current between multiple points of an electrical system.
A busbar may serve as a phase, neutral, protective PE, combined PEN, positive DC, negative DC, or general distribution conductor.
Its construction may be rigid, flexible, insulated, or multilayer. Depending on the application, flat bars, comb, pin, fork, and other contact forms may be used.
Important electrical-design parameters include conductor material, cross-sectional area, electrical conductivity, resistivity, resistance per unit length, rated current, temperature rise, and maximum permissible conductor temperature.
For flexible and laminated busbars, additional parameters include the number and thickness of conductive and insulating layers, permitted bending directions, inductance, capacitance, dielectric characteristics, and partial discharge inception voltage.
Mechanical material properties may include purity, thermal conductivity, coefficient of thermal expansion, tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, and hardness.
For insulated versions, insulation material and thickness, application method, coverage, thermal class, electrical clearances, and creepage distances are also considered.
Selection criteria include electrical function, material, actual dimensions, current-carrying capacity, contact arrangement and pitch, mounting method, thermal conditions, insulation, mechanical processing, and declared compliance with applicable standards.
This subcategory includes standalone general-purpose busbars, including phase, neutral, PE, PEN, and DC busbars, as well as rigid, flexible, insulated, and multilayer designs.
